Ancient Stone Chawan
The surface of this chawan has the quality of stone that has been worn and weathered over many years — dark charcoal ground punctuated by tan and khaki patches where the glaze has separated and broken, with hints of olive green where ash has settled. The texture throughout is heavy and tactile, with visible irregularities in the clay surface that give the bowl its character.
The form is rounded and comfortable in the hand, with a foot that anchors it solidly. A chasen fits easily in the wide interior. This is a bowl that grows on you the more you use it.
