Carbon and Silence Chawan
This is perhaps the most extreme expression of wabi in the collection. The glaze is a near-carbon black, dark and almost entirely matte, with subtle gray shifts that only reveal themselves in close inspection. The rim is rough and irregular — intentionally unfinished, following the Japanese aesthetic tradition of finding beauty in incompleteness and imperfection.
The form is wide and open. Presented with an orange cloth and its wooden box, the contrast between the refined presentation and the raw bowl itself is part of the statement. Sabi in its most uncompromising form.
