Ink and Stone Chawan

Bold graphic tension defines this wide, low chawan. A deep black glaze covers most of the exterior, but large sections of bare clay break through in sweeping, irregular patches — the result of intentional resist or the kiln's unpredictable hand. The contrast is striking: matte, warm stoneware against the speckled darkness of the glaze.

The interior is softer, a speckled gray-blue that pools gently in the center and creates a meditative ground for the matcha to rest against. The wide, open form invites the eye as much as the hand.
