Black Granite Chawan

This chawan looks less thrown than excavated. The surface is an intense dark charcoal-black, heavily granular and rough in a way that suggests volcanic rock or compressed earth. Silver-white mineral speckles are scattered across it, catching light only at certain angles — like stars in a clouded sky.

The form is wide with slightly squared walls and an irregular rim — no attempt to smooth away the evidence of making. This is one of the more confrontational pieces in the collection, a bowl that insists on being noticed and demands to be held.
