Jade Interior Chawan

The photographer has looked down into this bowl, and the view rewards it. The exterior is a dark, muted ground, but where teal-green glaze has flowed over the rim and pooled inside, the interior comes alive. The green is vivid — almost watery — against the charcoal background, pooling and trailing in ways that suggest moss on dark stone, or jade dissolving in still water.

Held in two hands and tipped slightly to catch the light, this chawan would reveal new details with every use. It is the kind of object that gives back to sustained attention.
