Blue Rain Chawan

Cobalt blue, running in long vertical lines from rim to base, creates something undeniably arresting on this dark, squared chawan. The drips are deliberate in their quantity and placement — enough to pattern the whole surface without becoming decorative in a self-conscious way. The blue catches light with a depth that the dark ground does not, making the drips seem almost luminous.

The form is angular — slightly squared walls, a direct presence — which sets off the softness of the flowing glaze. This is a chawan that people will reach for to look at before they reach for it to drink from.
