Blue Mountain Chawan

This drum-shaped chawan holds a calm, muted palette — blue-gray overlaying the darker body in a diffuse, unsharp way, like early morning light over a hillside still in shadow. The surface is textured without being rough, and the glaze sits on it with a softness that absorbs rather than reflects light.

The cylinder form gives it a modern quality alongside the wood-fired character of the glaze. A chasen fills the wide interior in the photograph, and the two together — bamboo and gray-blue ceramic — make a simple, considered pairing. This is a chawan for sustained quiet.
