Sage Ground Chawan

Sage green and warm amber-gold move across this chawan's surface in an uneven, mottled pattern that suggests lichen on a fieldstone, or the sun hitting a mossy bank at low angle. The form is organic rather than precise — the walls have variation, the rim is not perfectly even, and the surface texture is rough and varied throughout.

This is one of the most thoroughly handmade-feeling pieces in the collection. Where some chawan achieve wabi through restraint, this one achieves it through abundance — of texture, of color variation, of the sense that the maker's hands were present at every stage.
