Dark Harvest Chawan

Dark iron-brown covers most of this chawan's exterior, but golden amber interrupts it in sweeping, irregular patches — bright against the darkness in a way that seems almost lit from within. The texture is rough and sandy throughout, a surface that rewards touch as much as sight.

The form is rounded and classic, with a low foot ring and a rim that curves inward slightly at the top. Held in both hands, this is a bowl that settles and satisfies. The amber against the dark ground is the kind of color combination that the kiln achieves and cannot be planned.
