Iron Coast Chawan

The rim of this chawan rises and falls unevenly around its circumference, a deliberate irregularity that signals something about the piece's relationship to perfection. The body is a dense blue-gray, and yellow-green mineral spotting is scattered across it — the result of ash and iron reacting in the kiln in ways that could not have been predicted.

The foot ring is left bare, terracotta-warm against the cooler body glaze. Held in the hands, the bowl's weight is substantial and settled. This is a chawan with real character — not smooth, not resolved, but alive in a way that some more finished pieces are not.
