Amber Scar Chawan

The surface of this chawan is among the roughest in the collection — an intensely textured dark ground where the glaze has blistered and crawled across the clay, leaving a surface that looks and feels like cooling lava. Against this darkness, amber patches glow with a warmth that seems almost geological in origin, like iron ore embedded in basalt.

The form is wide and low, the interior dark. A chasen sits naturally inside, the bamboo warm against the dark ceramic. This is a bowl that feels prehistoric — not primitive, but ancient, as if it carries some memory of the earth it came from.
