Three Root Chawan

This chawan has a three-part notched foot — an unusual choice that lifts the bowl off the surface and gives it a lightness the form alone doesn't suggest. The glaze is olive-yellow-green with dark iron spotting throughout, the color of old bronze or damp lichen.

The combination of the earthy glaze and the lifted foot is unexpected, and it works.
