Iron Earth Lidded Jar

Short and solid, this lidded jar has the proportions of something made to be useful — a condiment jar, a vessel for keeping small precious things sealed away. The body is dark iron-brown with golden amber mottling, the glaze uneven in the way that results from a wood-fired kiln rather than careful application.

The lid rests naturally on the body and is shown here leaned aside to reveal the dark interior. The small knob is rough and hand-formed. This is a functional object that doesn't apologize for it — the beauty is in the directness of the form and the richness of the glaze.
