River Stone Vase

This small vase has almost no neck — the form simply tapers to a narrow point at the top, where a small opening admits a single stem if one is wanted. The body is a full teardrop, wide in the middle and narrowing at both ends. The surface is extremely rough, gray-green and amber-rust in a mottled pattern that looks genuinely geological — like a river cobble or a piece of flint split open.

There is something ancient about this piece. It would fit in a hand, or sit on a stone shelf next to other stones, and require no explanation.
