Bowls

Bowls are the most honest objects a potter makes. There is nowhere to hide in a bowl — the form is open, the interior as visible as the exterior, and every decision made at the wheel is on display. A bowl asks to be used: for food, for fruit, for the small accumulation of objects that collect on a desk or a counter. Each bowl in this collection is wheel thrown in my studio from locally sourced stoneware, wood-fired and glazed with materials I mix myself. The surfaces range from dark and volcanic to pale and ash-white, the interiors often quieter than the exterior — a place for the eye to rest before the hands pick it up.
