Large Vases

A large vase demands a different kind of attention. It is a presence in a room — an object that holds space as much as it holds flowers or branches — and it earns that presence through form, surface, and the confidence of the maker's hand. Each vase in this collection is wheel thrown in my studio, built to a scale where the weight of the clay and the pull of the wheel become visible in the finished piece: in the subtle variations of the wall, the way the neck rises from the shoulder, the character of the foot. The glazes are wood-fired and mixed from local materials, and at this scale they have room to do something — to move, to pool, to break open into colour and texture across a surface large enough to read like a landscape.
