Medium Vases

A vase occupies the middle ground — present enough to notice, restrained enough to let what’s in it do the talking. At this scale the form can be generous without being imposing: a wider belly, a considered neck, a foot that anchors it without drawing attention. Each vase in this collection is wheel thrown in my studio and wood-fired, the surfaces developed through multiple glaze layers that respond differently to the heat and atmosphere of the kiln. Some emerge dark and complex, others pale and mineral. They are made to hold branches, dried stems, or a loose handful of garden flowers — and to look just as good empty on a shelf.
